Mexico's national disaster prevention centre Cenapred has warned four northern states will see the most severe temperature drops this coming winter. The states named are Chihuahua, Durango, Sonora and Baja California.[^1]

Forecasters project abnormal weakening of the northern hemisphere polar vortex for the 2026-2027 winter. This condition is expected to bring extreme cold to northern Mexico.[^2]

On 2 November 2026, the Government of Mexico granted 30-year direct water concession titles to five Baja California municipalities. The municipalities are Tijuana, Playas de Rosarito, Mexicali, Tecate and Ensenada.[^3]
